Clinical Anatomy In The Department of Surgery

Discovering Anatomy:
Learn the Secrets of the Basement

The Division of Clinical Anatomy reintroduces its popular workshop in a new two-session format.

Designed like a medical school course and taught by Stanford faculty, participants will explore the human anatomy associated with common medical conditions, and observe and participate in the performance of the surgical procedures to correct these conditions.

Participants will (Session 1):

  • Discover the technologies that Stanford students use to prepare for a future in medicine, including the Anatomage 3D Anatomy Table, Zspace, Oculus Rift,      3D interactive anatomy apps, digital diagnostic imaging, and stereo images
  • Learn how the combination of these technologies with human cadaver dissections makes learning anatomy at Stanford a unique experience
  • Observe a surgical procedure in the Bio Skills teaching laboratory
  • Work with faculty on choosing the medical conditions to be explored in session 2

Between Sessions, participants (working in groups) will:

  • Explore the relevant human anatomy in the context of the clinical conditions chosen in Session 1
  • Research these clinical conditions and their associated surgical procedures

Participants will (Session 2):

  • Review the relevant anatomy, clinical conditions and surgical procedures
  • Assist the surgeon in performing the surgical treatments in the Bio Skills teaching laboratory

The course is limited to 15 students.  Refreshments will be served.

Sessions 1 and 2:  $495 (includes all materials and fees for cadaver)
Session 1 only:  $335

Session 1:  Friday, November 7
Session 2:  Friday, December 4

Time:  1 – 4 PM
